Who We are |
The Columbus School’s Navigational Chart, including the mission and vision, guide the pedagogical strategies that the school employs to ensure student learning experiences that can be transferred to real world situations. Our mission at The Columbus School is to contribute to the education of ethical and competent citizens of the world. We are founded on universal values and an international education with academic rigor based on high quality Colombian and United states accredited programs. At The Columbus School, we promote excellence in who we are and what we know by living The Columbus Way.
We encourage each student to be balanced in his/her intellectual, emotional, social and physical development. We want them to be critical, creative thinkers that are analytical and make decisions. We promote problem solving and research in real world scenarios. We want our students to participate in a process of continuous improvement where they are capable of self reflecting to succeed in a rapidly changing global environment. We feel that each student can maximize his/her own individual potential to achieve excellence. We encourage our students to work effectively as an individual or part of a team. We encourage their bilingualism, and encourage excellence in English. We want our students to be socially responsible citizens of the world and protectors of the environment. A student that graduates from The Columbus School lives by these beliefs, otherwise known as The Columbus Way. As a school, we have identified five goals that encompass eight initiatives. These initiatives were written with the help of all stakeholders to ensure that we offer a well rounded educational and real life experience for our students. The initiatives are: Columbus Accountable (governance and leadership), Columbus 4H (academic rigor, sports, and arts), Columbus Heart (social responsibility), Columbus Voice (communication), Columbus Character and Values (universal values), Columbus Talent (teacher retention), Columbus English Excellence (dominance in English), and E-Columbus (progressive environmental program). We integrate all of the initiatives in the continuous systems of improvement, curriculum, and activities in our school. |
Learning Principles |
At The Columbus School, we believe that learning is enhanced when it is personalized. We have created a shared vision of what we believe and what real learning looks like and is guided by the work of Wiggins and McTighe. We updated our learning principles in 2013.
